Sometimes people contact me and say that they have been abused by John Yarr. I want to put what different people have written on one page so that it is easy for people to see. This makes sense of what my mother and I were told when we looked into him in about 2000. We were told there was some sort of case being put together against him and that someone was collecting the accounts of people who had been children who were assaulted by him. It’s so long ago I don’t remember anymore whether I had contact with the people who were collecting statements. I also knew that nothing came of it, but I no longer remember how I know that. I remember I was very upset that he had just got away with it.

As I have commented once before on an earlier post, my parents were in Lifewave and I was sexually abused by Yarr as a child of about 5.
My parents took me to him for chiropractic treatment and he said they had to leave me with him. He pushed my face down into the hole in the massage table and so I couldn’t move or shout and he assaulted me.
He then gave my parents a set of exercises I was supposed to do every day and told them to hold ice cubes behind my ears every day to get rid of my anger! ( What kind of insane torture was that?) I fought back against doing any of the exercises and my mother was angry with me.
I didn’t tell my parents what had happened until I was in my 20s. To be honest I don’t think I understood what had happened. I was probably unsure as to whether what he had done to me was the treatment my parents had taken me there for.
It is helpful to read these articles and understand the context of what happened to me. It is so difficult to understand how my parents and all the other people involved were so completely sucked in and manipulated by this arsehole.

My parents were involved in Lifewave from the mid 1980s until the end. I was sexually assaulted by John Yarr when I was a young child. When I eventually began working through this in my 20s my mother and I discovered he was accused of raping other children and that there was an investigation going on into him. This was in the early 2000s. I'm in my 40s now, still trying to work through the damage done by being sexually assaulted by someone your parents worship, whose photo was in your home. Being taught to meditate saying his guru name. Being punished for refusing to do physical exercises he told your parents you should do to "correct" your knock knees. Even changing your name and having that name chosen by Liz (I don't remember her last name, she was a homeopath and an adept).
Recently I started looking for information. I needed to know if there were other people like me out there and also what had happened when the sexual assaults were being looked into in the early 2000s but it doesn't look like anything happened and apart from references on various forums to the fact that he raped women and may have raped children I haven't seen anyone say they experienced this themselves. So it looks like he got away with all of it and has presumably continued raping and abusing people ever since. I can't believe there are people still believing in his teachings or referring to him with awe. I sincerely hope that he will suffer one day for everything he has done.
In June 2025 a man contacted me by email. He said his mother and grandmother were involved with the Divine Light Mission and Lifewave. His mother was abused as a child living in Bognor in the Lifewave homestead community. I'm not going to put his name here because I don't think he would want that.

John Yarr was arrested in 2000 and charged with 8 crimes. One was raping a 7 year old girl. Another was shooting a girl. Apparently it was with an airgun and he admitted to having done it. Two girls, both of them children of Yarr's followers, had gone to the police. They didn't get very far, the main problem is that one of them had given a statement to the police sometime in the 1980s but the police hadn't kept it. Her testimony in court could not be compared to her original statement to see if there were any contradictions. It's more complicated than that but basically he got off.
There is a website that gives much more detail. I have spoken with someone who was involved with this website. He understands more about the legal issues than I do. He told me the site was taken down at the request of the two girls. However, it can still be seen on a web archive.
